Tuva Halse (b. 1999) is a Norwegian improvising violinist and composer from Molde, based in Oslo. With a background as a classical violinist, she creates music at the intersection between Nordic jazz, folk and classical art music. She has already played at several of the main jazz stages in Norway with her own and others' projects, including names such as Mathias Eick, Mats Eilertsen, Tord Gustavsen and Trondheim Jazz Orchestra, in addition to contributing to a number of releases in different genres (Røsten, Marstein, Sara Fjeldvær). As violinist, pianist and vocalist she is also active in different project such as Bento Box Trio, Miriam Kibakaya Concept, OJKOS and tuvahalseband In May 2024 she was awarded the NTNU ambassador price during Trondheim Jazzfestival, commended for “a rare courageous sensitivity in tone and way of playing”. Later that year, she received the #huninvesterer grant from DNB and Kongsberg Jazz Festival, which provides the opportunity for a commissioned work that will premiere at the festival in 2025. Her quintet features Oscar Andreas Haug (Bliss Quintet, Little North), Benjamín Gísli (Benjamín Gísli Trio, Bento Box Trio), Gard Kronborg (Bliss Quintet, Karl Strømme) and Øyvind Leite (I LIKE TO SLEEP, Sara Fjeldvær). The debut album of the quintet "Two" was on Jazzland Recordings in October 2023.
