The Proles

We formed in 1976 as The Valves before going on to change our name to THE PROLES, from 1977 onward we played lots of gigs in Newcastle and the surrounding area . We released a joint EP with The Condemned in 1978 for Tyneside Rock Against Racism Stereo Love / Thoughtcrime in 1979, and the following year. released a single on legendary indie label, Small Wonder Records titled - Softground/SMK The first of two CD compilations was released in 1994 on the Overground Records label, this first UK release was Stereo Love (OVERCD37). It features demos and a full live recording of The Proles. In 1996 Grand Theft Audio records released a Proles compilation CD titled Thoughtcrime in the USA. In 2016 The Proles played a Small Wonder Festival event in Walthamstow with The Cravats as part of the Mayor of London’s 1977 Remembered punk festival. The following year we released MORTON CRESCENT, a retrospective on 12” LP for Overground Records, which is sold out but can be streamed from Spotify, Amazon Music and Apple Music, or purchased as a download.
