The Garrys
Rock / Garage Rock / Rockabilly
From the coldest part of the landlocked Canadian prairies, sister trio The Garrys make surf music. With layered 3-part blood harmonies, hazy sun-bleached melodies, vintage guitar tones, and syncopated surf beats, The Garrys create a unique doom-wop sound, dripping with nostalgia and touched with psychedelic dread.
Lo-fi debut Warm Buds established a woozy garage-surf sound that would start to become The Garrys' signature, while follow-up Surf Manitou, a concept album and a love letter to prairie beach town weirdness, dug deeper into influences from classic surf acts and 60’s girl groups. These records took The Garrys to festival appearances across Canada, the UK, and Iceland, and onto stages alongside The Sadies, Elliott BROOD, The Courtneys, Terra Lightfoot, Weaves, and La Luz.
Their third release was a live original score for cult silent film 'Häxan' (1922), and used darker and heavier sounds to marry surf and psych with demonic imagery. A strong critical reception to double LP Häxan: Witchcraft Through the Ages (Original Score) garnered The Garrys a 2020 Sask Music Award.
2021 will see the anticipated release of 'Get Thee To A Nunnery' (2021), produced by Dallas Good (of The Sadies). This album pays homage to The Garrys’ familial roots, their windswept prairie surroundings, and nostalgia for times and places that they never really knew. Musically, it draws upon a diverse array of sounds from The Ventures, Ennio Morricone, Kurt Vile, France Gall, and Los Saicos.
