This Mexican noise rock outfit has featured a furiously rotating cast of performers during its existence, but there has remained one central figure who has guided its development and direction since Day 1, multi-instrumentalist Samuel Osorio. His fervent guitar and bass performance and tortured vocals have established a core around which chaos is order and volume is paramount, and the final results stand in sharp contrast to the laid back expectations conjured by the band's moniker. The foundational influences here are krautrock, shoegaze, and punk, but Sunset Images takes the ideas embodied by those genres and drives them through a wall into a realm that entertains only their noisiest inclinations. Their release, Traumatismo Nacional (2021), is driven by a disgust for the violence, racism, and misogyny they perceive as the open wound of their nation, adding a heightened sense of anger that serves to ratchet up the intensity even further, while their latest NADA / CERO / INFINITO (2024) is a conceptual EP with 3 stunning tracks, more introspective in nature and scope, explores feelings of loneliness, anger, hopelessness and not being enough in our current society. Over the course of it’s existence they have become known for fiery, high-energy live performances, so make sure you take a few deep breaths before immersing yourself into this perpetually swirling maelstrom.
