Soot
Rock / Alternative Rock
Following the release of full albums “Talons of Empathy” (2022) and “Wearing a Wire” (2024), Soot has toured and played heavily in 2023-24. Along the way, they’ve supported a slew of disparate acts, from legendary cult Chicago natives Dead Rider and titans of Pacific Northwest Doom Mizmor, to megalithic singer-songwriter Julien Baker. Soot’s spastic live performances, unconventional production and unique cross-genre dabblings in all directions heavy are what allow them to lend their sound to such a vast array of shows. Borrowing from traditions of manic post-hardcore and southern metal to gentler ambient and folk sounds, Soot is carving their way into the contemporary American musical zeitgeist.
“Wearing a Wire” is the 2nd and most recent full length album from Southern Noise Rock outfit, Soot. The album lays out a mind-bending journey through gas station stickups, fire ant swarms, and consolations with a tired devil along I-20 from Texas to Tennessee. The pummeling sounds and collage-like arrangement of lyrical narrative imply what feels like a collection of short stories, sharing characters and motifs on a timeline, but with no clear consensus on where the journey began or if it will ever end.
