SanIsidro
European / Flamenco
What Isidro Rubio loves most about making music is songwriting. Tired of playing in punk and rock'n'roll bands, he decided to go solo as SanIsidro. He quickly discovered the freedom of creating on his own, and that's how he began recording songs with no other intention than to entertain himself. It was 2014 and at that time, he was living in Berlin. He had a borrowed 8-track and recorded a good handful of demos. Back in Valencia, an old friend who was passing through the city heard the tracks and convinced Isidro to release them on his record label. That's how "a lo pesau, a lo bajo y a lo llano", his first EP as SanIsidro, was released in October 2020 under the label Slovenly Recordings. That collection of songs laid the foundations for a broad-scope project without genre or style limitations. Freed from the constraints of composing and playing in a band, the musician soared high with renewed energy.
Isidro Rubio's trajectory and background help understand the scope and height that this music project takes on. He started at a very young age, playing his father's bongo —a flamenco percussionist and dancer— and the guitar with his mother. At the age of 9, he joined his school's traditional music group in Valencia and, as expected, at 14 he was already forming his first punk band. Later, he would also play in 60's rock'n'roll, punk, and garage bands like Venereans or Wau y los Arrrghs!!!, which took him on tours around Europe, America, and Australia.
