Pirritu - Brett Lee
Rock / Folk Rock
Pirritu’s music is a gentle, honest, and melodic personal journey that entices you into the depths of sadness, love, and shimmering hope. The songman’s work honours a cultural journey to connect back to land, language, and family with a continual thirst for deeper understanding of his people and country. 'Pirritu Part 1’ is the debut album by Pirritu released in November 2021, the first of many explorations deep into the heart of a talented storyteller. ‘Fire When The Sun Goes Down’ (March, 2023) is the triumphant follow-up album that presents classic folk storytelling elements, connecting his personal journey of self-discovery to country and culture. A true folk ensemble brings an immersive sound that underscores the strong visual narrative offered through Pirritu's songs, with his unique vocals and folk instrumentation weaving amongst each other like the gentle wind and waters the Ngiyampaa man sings of. His songlines are informed by the work outside of music that Pirritu undertakes, which is contributing to preserving the ancient language of his people and gaining deeper understanding of their stories and traditions.
In 2019, Pirritu (meaning ‘Brett’ in Ngiyampaa language) toured internationally with the HOMELANDS Tour, connecting with established and emerging First Nations artists on their Homelands and performing on festival stages around the world.
