Ocean Districts

Founded in Tallinn, Estonia in 2011, Ocean Districts was initially a side project which soon evolved into an active band with most members coming from a background in heavier music. Early inspirations for the now five-piece quintet were post-hardcore and post-rock outfits, but with the new album "Phantom Islands" the band has taken the liberty of stepping outside the traditionally instrumental genre by inviting guest vocalists to perform on certain tracks and venturing into different paths. The album features some songs with a more mainstream & poppy structure, experimental progressive elements and alternative rock influences while still maintaining a heavy distinctive sound familiar from the bands previous releases. The concept album focuses on the idea of lands and islands that were once "discovered" and even put on maps, but later were confirmed not to exist at all due to various reasons as navigational errors, mistaken observations, unverified misinformation, legends, mirages or even deliberately invented by explorers who did not want to disappoint their financers. The album took over 4 years to write, produce and record and is a follow up to 2014 album "Expeditions" and 2018 EP "Doomtowns". Album was nominated for "Metal Album of the Year " at the 2024 Estonian Music Awards.
