Mice on Stilts

Seven years in the making, ‘I am Proud of You’ is the latest album from Mice on Stilts which explores the growing pains of addiction, sobriety and recovery. From court houses to hospital beds and jail cells to rehab, the album is an introspective offering of redemption. Produced in house by Mice on Stilts’ Saxophonist Charlie Isdale, ‘I am Proud of You’ was expertly mixed by Tom Broome (Tim Finn, Dave Dobbyn, Teeks) and adeptly mastered by Vivek Gabriel (Aro, Esther Stephens and The Means, The Dark Third) Based in Tāmaki Makaurau, the six-piece traverse genres, creating a unique sound once described by a reviewer as “a sombre, subtle and slow-to-grow opus that virtually exudes a cinematic aura others of their kind often only allude to.” Moving between folk, progressive rock and chamber music, the anticipated album is a refinement of their distinctive sound. Enthusiastic fans and critics have previously likened the band to Radiohead, Pink Floyd and Steven Wilson. While earlier works leaned into darkness as a cathartic expression, this latest body of work offers a reprieve, showcasing an empathic and inviting soundscape that revisits recurring lyrical themes with grace and ease. Following on from the release of their single Grey Diving Bell in December 2021, Mice on Stilts latest single titled National Radio comes out on the 14th of February 2023. The full album will be released on the 17th of March 2023 with a release show on the 25th of March.
