Proving to be an act to watch in 2024, Boorloo's (Perth) indie pop-rock band Joan & The Giants have recently supported global superstars P!NK and Tones & I at Optus Stadium, they landed Triple J Unearthed feature artist after the release of their latest single 'Born in the Wrong Time' which also won them the Happy Mag 'Needle in the Hay' comp and Best Rock Song / Runner Up Song of the Year at the 2024 WA Song of the Year Awards. This year the four piece have embarked on multiple national tours, and will be supporting US pop star Belinda Carlisle on her Australian run of shows throughout September and October.
2023 was a huge year for these giants, they showcased at BIGSOUND, supported Eskimo Joe around WA, and landed seven nominations at the WA Music Awards where they secured awards for Best Alternative/Indie Act, Best Single, and Best Music Video. In 2024 the band have already released two singles, ‘Good Time’; which was added to Spotify's New Music Friday, Front Left, Alt Here, Fresh Finds, Local Noise and Indie Arrivals and ‘Born in the Wrong Time’; which landed Triple J Unearthed feature artist and multiple Spotify editorials.
The band began with Grace Newton-Wordsworth and Aaron Birch, who formed Joan & The Giants in 2019. Coming together from different backgrounds; Aaron, a Nyul Nyul man from a remote community in the Kimberley and front-woman Gracie from an organic farm down South of WA. The pair are now based in Perth with band members Riley Sutton and Liam Olsen.
