Jason Gabriel Mountario (11 June 1997) is a composer, electric bass player and mixing engineer from Jakarta, Indonesia. He received multiple awards while studying bass performance and jazz composition at Berklee College of Music. In 2019, he was the recipient of the Downbeat magazine's 42nd annual student music award in two categories; original composition-large ensemble for his piece ‘Princess of Sahara’ and jazz arrangement, for his arrangement of ‘Nardis’. At a later time of the year, ‘Fake People’, won the 2019 SCI Jazz Composition Contest, as well as winning the Downbeat magazine's 43rd annual student music award in the category of original composition-large ensemble. Graduated and flying back to his country, he was commissioned by Salihara to write original music to be premiered at Salihara Jazz Buzz 2021, resulting 5 freshly composed original compositions, with the title of the concert ‘NOMENASIA’. A couple of months after that, ‘letter for the innocent’, another original composition selected and performed at Pekan Komponis Indonesia 2021. After the grueling, long and focused journey, on march 3rd 2023 he released his debut album ‘LOVE IS’, within a trio format, him being the leader, bass player and composer, alongside Sri Hanuraga on the piano and Kelvin Andreas on the drum. It is a concept album, wading through seven original compositions, in the realm of the theme of love, encompassing jazz-rock, contemporary classical and free improvisation.
