Hotel Bossa Nova are notorious musical globetrotters, adventurous and curious crossover artists of world jazz, who are easily able to delve into different stylistic spheres. Led by the charming Liza da Costa, a singer with Portuguese and Indian roots, Hotel Bossa Nova focuses on the Portuguese roots. ‚Cruzamento (Portuguese for crossroads) is their eighth album Hotel Bossa Nova focuses on an inimitable mixture of jazzy styles, combined with fado, samba and of course, due to the name, the sensual saudade of bossa nova. If such a combination was described a little helplessly as world jazz not so long ago, Hotel Bossa Nova no longer need this pigeonhole. With their stylistic diversity, which even after fifteen years of band history still comes together in a convincing but refreshingly unpretentious way, the band from Wiesbaden, Germany founded their very own genre. Liza da Costa, singer and lyricist of Hotel Bossa Nova, shows herself in her passionate singing (in Portuguese and English), alternately soft and rough, but always sensual as well as rhythmic, making her the ideal lead singer. For Liza's voice is made to work with such creative talents as the three virtuoso instrumentalists Tilmann Höhn (guitar), Alex Sonntag (bass) and Wolfgang Stamm (drums) to create such and excitingly intense music as the excellent "Cruzamento" offers.
