What is a gal supposed to do when her car breaks down, her grandmother dies, her dog gets cancer, and her husband runs off with a blonde to Texas? Write a country song, of course. Like most people, Hope MacGregor endured the year 2020. A season of hurt and loss descended without much respite. While cleaning out a closet of her soon-to-be-ex-husband’s belongings, Hope ran across her old guitar from her days at West Point. That guitar had been cracked and glued back together . . . and packed away for far too long. She opened the case, tuned it up, and prayed it still played. Hope’s first love was music. She began writing at the age of fifteen and playing with a small band of friends in her corn-fed hometown. However, the Army came calling and Hope answered. In 2007, she reported to the United States Military Academy, and in 2012 she pinned on her wings as an OH-58D Kiowa Warrior helicopter pilot. After eight years of active duty service and one tour to Afghanistan, she hung up her uniform. The road back to music has been bumpy. But since cracking open that case a few years ago, Hope’s guitar collection – and song collection – has grown. She’s made a home in Jackson, Tennessee as a singer-songwriter, finding the small town’s love of music, and support for local musicians, a deep well to draw from.
