Helicon
Rock / Uk Stoner Rock / Rock / Psychedelic Rock
Eastern-influenced, Scottish psychedelia. Helicon blends neo-psych-rock with sitars, electronica, ambient soundscapes and irresistible grooves to take psychedelic music into fresh, sonic territory. Channelling their love for 60s counter-culture and global music influences to create a modern and distinctive sound.
Their 2023 album ‘God Intentions’ hit the UK album charts, won ‘Psych Lovers' Album of The Year’ , was nominated for Scottish Album of The Year and eared the band the headliner slot at the Scottish Alternative Music Awards.
Helicon was formed by brothers John-Paul and Gary Hughes in East Kilbride, Glasgow (hometown of fellow band brothers and Fuzz Club label mates The Jesus & Mary Chain). They signed to Fuzz Club in 2017, releasing 3 studio albums, 2 live albums, 2 EPs and 2 stand-alone singles to date. Over the last few years, the band has enjoyed repeated spot plays of all new releases on BBC Radio 6 Music, coverage from Shindig, Clash, Louder Than War, Gigwise, The Skinny and more, and been officially playlisted by Spotify, Apple Music and Deezer.
The band tours Europe each year including major independent festival appearances and have previously collaborated on recordings with Tony Doogan (Mogwai), Will Carruthers (Spacemen 3, The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Spiritualized, Dead Skeletons), Mark Gardener (Ride) and LA-based DJ/producer Al Lover.
