If you didn’t know any better, it might seem as though Emmeline was destined to end up here, directing the relentless rush hour traffic of her interior world through a cavalcade of beats that glide with the improbable velocity of Sherman tanks. Since making London her permanent home, following a childhood in bucolic West Yorkshire, her opening brace of EPs, Satellite Navigation System (2022) and Small-Town Girls and Soft Summer Nights (2023) – both produced by Fraser T Smith (Dave, Stormzy) – saw her featured in The Guardian’s One to Watch section and being championed by Mike Skinner, who invited her to open for The Streets in 2023. Kojey Radical delivered a scorching cameo on the crepuscular languor of Dust, further cementing the promise that elicited enthusiastic responses from DJs as disparate as Radio 1’s Jack Saunders and BBC 6 Music’s Cerys Matthews.
