Cat Canteri
Rock / Indie Rock
Hi, it’s Cat here. I’m a Melbourne northside native, raised on a diet of skateboarding and backyard cricket. This is my singer-songwriter project. I started writing songs when I was 16 but most of my life my main musical pursuits have been as a drummer. I hadn’t quiet built the confidence to go out on my own, so I always gravitated to playing for other songwriters, Alison Ferrier, Jed Rowe, Kutcha Edwards, Brendan Gallagher, Lachlan Bryan And The Wildes, Saint Jude. In 2009 I formed The Stillsons with fellow songwriter and future life partner Justin Bernasconi. Five years down the track I went solo with my debut solo release When We Were Young. My follow up EP Late At Night was 6 songs previously recorded with The Stillsons, reimagined and played live in the studio, it was also my first foray into lead and slide guitar. My last album, Inner North (2018), was all about the narrative song. I drew heavy inspiration from Melbourne peers John Flanagan and Michael Waugh. I wanted nothing more than to bring a whole story to life within a 4-minute song. I feel I achieve this and am really proud of the work. My latest single, Lost Years is out on Aug 14. Creatively it’s a new approach for me, being written, played and recorded by myself, within a few days. The songs static chord progression means interest and intensity is built around the arrangement and layering of instruments. Thanks so much for checking out my work. Cat x
