Babylon Orchestra

The multicultural Berlin-based fusion ensemble is made up of around 20 different international members and has, to date, worked with over 50 musicians from all over the world. Founded in 2016 by Mischa Tangian and Sofia Surgutschowa at the height of the European migration crisis as a „refugee project“ it developed into an independent professional big band with classical, traditional and jazz musicians. The group’s uniqueness lies in its combination of traditional music from the Middle East, Balkan Region and North Africa with the musical cultures of Europe and North America – adding an urban twist from the Berlin music scene. Now, more than ever, they continue to find innovative, contemporary ways of bringing together different cultures to create a fresh sound that represents a multicultural society.
