Angeline Morrison

Angeline Morrison GB

R&B / Contemporary R&B
Angeline Morrison is a singer, multi-instrumentalist, morris dancer and songwriter in the wyrd folk tradition who believes in the beauty of sad songs, ancient stones, and the very small things in nature that often go unnoticed. In July 2022 Angeline became the 4th winner of the prestigious Christian Raphael Prize at Cambridge Folk Festival. Solo album The Brown Girl and Other Folk Songs was The Guardian’s Folk Album of the Month for May 2022. The Sorrow Songs: Folk Songs of Black British Experience (Topic Records, 2022) was voted The Guardian’s Folk Album of the Year for 2022. This work seeks to re-story the lost & forgotten lives of our Black ancestors in Britain back into our folk songs. From somewhere wild in Kernow, UK, Angeline creates dark, haunted folk tinged with soul, doo-wop and 60s beat sounds. Influences include Shirley Collins, Sam Cooke, The Pentangle, Jacques Derrida, Anne Briggs, Joe Meek, the novels of Mary Webb. Also audible as We Are Muffy, Rowan : Morrison, The Mighty Sceptres, The Ambassadors of Sorrow. “Morrison’s courage in reconstructing tradition is truly revolutionary” (New Internationalist). “A ballad-maker for our time” (ArtsDesk). “Abundant with meaning and feeling” (The Guardian). "Weird, unsettling folk that verges on the hymnal" (BBC Music Introducing) https://www.angelinemorrisonmusic.com https://angelinemorrisonmusic.bandcamp.com https://linktr.ee/angelcakepie
